Lying just below the surface, billions of six-legged creatures claw their way through the soil for a once-in-a-lifetime emergence. This May, cicadas take center stage, covering the Chicago-land area. As locals itch at the not-so-phantom feeling of bugs crawling across their skins, the red-eyed beauty turns out to be one girl's muse. The Cicadian Rhythm follows Nina Salem, founder of The Insect Asylum, as she prepares for the historic event. Combining science and art, Salem and hundreds of artists paint the town (and larger-than-life plaster cicadas) red. As Salem’s love for the creatures rubs off on the artists, plaster and living cicadas, forever transform the lives they touch.
